The Project overview


Task 1

18.1/ 11.2: Research the print industry; what are the following- hand crafted printing, mechanical printing and digital printing; explain with examples in each category. How is print distributed and has this changed over the last fifty decades?

Task 2

11. 3: Collect research and prepare a 1000 word report explaining with supporting arguments and examples, financial issues and current market trends in the print based media industries.

Task 3

11.1/ 11.2/ 11.3/ 50.4: Produce a PowerPoint on the following:

- what job opportunities are open to people in the Print industry?

- what types of contracts are offered?

- what professional bodies are affiliated with the industry?

- what are the legal and ethical issues that affect this industry?

-what do you think are the responsibilities and obligations that a journalist holds?

Task 4

50.3 Consider a number of different audiences and how printed material is designed with the audience in mind. Produce an annotated report on a variety of printed material that clearly targets different audiences. Produce some mock ups of articles that you have written for different audiences.

Task 5

50.1/ 50.2: Carry out some primary and secondary research to gather information about your target audiences’ reading habits and their needs and wants with regard to the magazine. Include research on stakeholders; for example parents/ governors/ teachers etc. Ensure you store and manage the research and tag appropriately.

Task 6

18.2/ 51.1/ 51.2/ 51.3: Produce a 2000 treatment for your magazine explaining in detail your proposals for the factual copy, the design layout, illustrations, competitions, and marketing strategies to ensure the magazine is commercially viable. Please include mock ups of pages as examples for each category (design layout/ copy/ illustrations/ marketing/ competitions)

Task 7

52.1/ 18.3: Produce a 1000 word production plan for your magazine explaining what technology will be needed to produce the magazine and what qualities you think your magazine needs to imbibe to ensure that it is an effective factual communication; please include in this plan time schedules/ deadlines and roles and responsibilities within the group.

Task 8

18.3/ 52.2/ 52.3: Produce a magazine according to the design brief agreed at your meetings with your clients (this will be fictitious in most cases).

Task 9

18.4/ 52.4/ 51.4 Produce a 2000 word evaluation of your magazine. Use the evaluation model to produce this.
