Magazine Evaluation

Produce a 2000 word evaluation of your magazine.
1. What was your brief- what magazine did you intend to produce?
2. Who was your target audience and what research did you carry out to establish what kind of magazine they would read?
3. How did you adjust your ideas to meet the brief and the target audience?
4. What were the successes of your production?- explain in detail key elements of the magazine and how you achieved them.
5. What would you change in terms of the production in terms of targeting your audience more closely or do you think that you have already achieved this?
6. How did you fully utilise the technology and were there any issues between the digital element and the mechanical printing?
7. When were you most successful; working on your own or working in collaboration?
8. What constraints did working with like this place on you?
9. What feedback have you received from the first edition?
10. What is the ideal team to assemble for a magazine production and what advice would you give others starting their own magazine?
11. If you had the opportunity to start from scratch what would you propose to produce for your magazine- give an outline plan and include a mock up.Please ensure you explain your answers fully.

Magazine Production Next Tasks

You will now need to create and produce a magazine of your chosen genre. Before you do you will need to carry out some research. Go to www.nrs.co.uk and find out who is the target audience fo your chosen type of magazine. Then produce a questionnaire to find out the following:
Carry out some primary (questionnaires and surveys) and secondary research (similar types of magazines and publications to your magazine) to gather information about your target audiences’ reading habits and their needs and wants with regard a new magazine. Include research on stakeholders; for example sponsors/ advertisers etc. You will need to use your research to form your ideas about the design, layout and content of the magazine. Ensure you store and manage the research and tag appropriately. Remember it is needed as evidence so electronic storage will need to be backed up.Evidence of completed questionnaires and surveys from stakeholders (can be fictitious) You may carry out market research n town.

Magazine Production- the Print Industry

Magazine Production
Task
1.
Research the three types of printing- hand crafted, mechanical and digital. Explain the different techniques within these types and the technologies used, providing examples of each.A research document with illustrated evidence explaining each of the three main types of printing and the various techniques within each type.

2.Write a 1000 word essay describing the print industry and the types of printing and techniques. Why is this industry so important and what are the challenges facing it in the 21st century? Describe the techniques and technologies; consider why it is so important- printed literature wherever you look, education, health, politics without print? How has it changed in the 21st century? Advent of internet, blackberries, desk top publishing; is the role of mechanical printing still valid? Will we always need mechanical printing? PowerPoint:· What job opportunities are open to people in the Print industry? This is similar to what you investigated on chapter 6· What types of contracts are offered? You will need to look at adverts for the print industry- are the contracts permanent, casual etc?· What professional bodies are affiliated with the industry? Unions like NUJ etc?· What are the legal and ethical issues that affect this industry? Explore the Press Complaints Commission site; use your notes from our visit· What do you think are the responsibilities and obligations that a journalist holds? Consider a number of different audiences and how printed material is designed with the audience in mind. Produce an annotated report on a variety of printed material that clearly targets different audiences. Produce some mock ups of articles that you have written for different audiences.Produce a front page for CCC magazines- would this be the same for different audiences; collect a range of materials for different audiences. Finally write some articles that are targeted at different audiences- how is language, layout, colour etc affected?This can be completed as a collaged report or as a PowerPoint
